Couzans will be opening soon and is right next door to Bergerons.  They will feature live Cajun, Swamp Pop and Zydeco music on Sundays from 4:00pm - 8:00pm.

A childhood filled with the Cajun traditions of the communal bouchorie culminated into a successful business and cooking venture for John and Verbie Benoit.  John Benoit is from Church Point, while his wife Verbie Benoit grew up in nearby Lawtell.  For 26 years, the Benoits have owned and operated Benoit's Country Meat Block, Inc. on LA 1 in Addis Louisiana.  We make and sell over 50 meat specialty items, the popular of which are our smoked meats.  Smoking 1200-1500 pounds of meat and meat specialties made on the premises daily keeps the Benoits and their employees busy throughout the year.  Among the many Cajun specialties made daily are 10 varieties of smoked or fresh sausages, including alligator or venison sausage, tasso, beef jerky, andouville, hog head cheese, boudin, boudin balls, and cracklins.  We also offer many of our products frozen, such as de-boned chickens, turduckins, and stuffed chicken breasts.  In addition to ready to cook items, our freezers are also stocked with ready-to-serve meals such as homemade gumbos, soups, stuffed bell peppers, stuffed mushrooms, hot tamales, red beans and sausage and many other varieties of home cooked items.  Along with all of this Benoit's also serves hot lunches, and sandwiches everyday.  We also specialize in the processing of wild game such as deer, elk, wild hot, duck, etc.  Hours are Monday - Friday 8:00am - 6:00pm, Saturday 8:00am - 1:00pm, closed Sunday.

How sweet it is! The West Baton Rouge Museum’s exhibits, From Field to Factory and Sugar Stories, focus on south Louisiana’s history of sugar cane and sugar production. The world’s appetite for sugar soared in the 18th and 19^th centuries. Generations of Louisiana’s sugar cane growers labored to meet the demand. Visitors also enjoy guided tours of the museum’s 3.5 acre campus with five historic buildings: a French Creole sugar planter’s home, the Aillet House ca. 1830; a Slave Dwelling ca. 1850 from Allendale Plantation; a Sharecropper’s Cabin ca. 1870 from Allendale Plantation; a Worker’s Cabin ca. 1960 from Allendale Plantation; and the Reed Shotgun House from a cattle ranch originally in West Baton Rouge. Learn about our diverse communities in the exhibit, In the Interest of Our Parish: West Baton Rouge 300 Years. Seasonal living history activities are options for tours and school groups with reservations. Come join the fun on the first Sunday in October for the annual SugarFest! Our cultural heritage is a gumbo of traditions bended together over generations with ingredients as diverse as our people. The museum is handicapped accessible with a Gift Shop and picnic grounds on-site.
